Shin splints,
fixed properly
Shin splints get blamed on bad luck, hard pavements or the wrong trainers. Usually it's load: too much, too soon, on legs that weren't ready for it. We find what's overloading your shins, settle it down hands-on and build you back up so the pain stays away. Get better. Stay better.

SOUND FAMILIAR?
/ The shins that ache
every time you run
✓A dull ache along the inside of your shin bone
✓Sore at the start of a run, eases, then comes back after
✓Tender to touch along the inner edge of the shin
✓Started when you added miles, speed or hills
✓Worse on pavements than on grass or trails
✓You rested for weeks. It came back on your first run
Rest isn't a training plan.
It's a pause button.
Shin splints are the shin bone and the muscles around it complaining about load they weren't ready for. Calves that tire early, feet that don't absorb impact, a training plan that jumped too fast. Rest lets it calm down but changes none of that. That's why it comes back and why we start by finding the actual cause.
WHAT'S ACTUALLY GOING ON
/ Shin problems we treat every week
Different problems need different plans. Naming yours precisely is step one of fixing it.
A dull ache along the inside of the shin that builds with running. The classic overload pattern and very fixable with the right plan.
Shin splints
Pain on the front of the shin, often in newer runners or after a big jump in pace. Usually a calf, ankle and load issue.
Front shin pain
A sharp, very local spot on the bone that hurts to press and with every step. We screen for this carefully and refer quickly if needed.
Bone stress concerns
Tight, aching calves that cramp late in runs and feed straight into shin pain. Strength and recovery fix more than stretching.
Calf overload
Shins that flare when the terrain changes: road season, track work or a new hilly route. We adjust the plan, not just the legs.
Surface and terrain flare-ups
Feet that roll in heavily or land hard can push extra load up the shin. We look at the foot before reaching for insoles.
Foot and ankle drivers
Shin pain rarely fixes itself.
Ignore it and the ache can turn into something that needs much longer off running. The earlier we get the load right, the quicker you're back. Every week you wait is a week of compensation we'll have to undo. Same-week appointments mean you don't have to wait.
/ The TAP Method, applied to your running
The reason our results last when quick fixes don't. One plan, one team, three steps.
OUR 3 STEP SYSTEM. WHAT HAPPENS IN YOUR FIRST SESSION
01
Assess
A proper conversation, then a full assessment: shin, calf, foot, hip, running gait and your training history. We find the true cause of your shin pain and screen for anything that needs a scan. Most runners tell us nobody has ever looked this closely before.
02
Treat
Hands-on treatment from minute one: soft tissue work, dry needling, cupping and taping, tailored to what your shins actually need. You'll feel a difference before you leave the room.
03
Rebuild
Calf and foot strength, a gradual return-to-run plan and smarter loading, so your shins handle more than they did before. This is the step every quick fix skips and the reason ours doesn't come back.
No GP referral, no scan required, no fixed packages, no pressure. In your first session we'll find what's actually driving your shin pain and tell you honestly how we can help, or point you to who can if we're not the right fit.
/ How long do shin splints take?
Anyone promising to fix it in one session is guessing. Here's what we actually see in clinic when people follow their plan.

Paige B · Fresha review · Return to running
Lauren has been fantastic, really glad I found TAP clinic when I started running postpartum! I've had some injuries along the way and Lauren has helped me with physio exercises & a plan for recovery, which has meant I was back running injury free - along with some sports massage for maintance - would reccomend to everyone.

TAP client · 5-star review · Football
Had my second appointment today, already feeling like I’m moving and feeling a great deal better in such a short period of time. Lydia has really helped out with both my ability to play football but also my day to day aches and pains. Which hasn’t been an issue since the first visit. Firmly recommend.

Ali D · Google Review · Sports Massage
Had an excellent sports massage that helped me recover from a hamstring injury and get back to playing.

GOOD TO KNOW
/ Shin splints questions, answered
Do I need a GP referral or a scan first?
No. You can book directly with us as a private patient. A thorough physical assessment diagnoses most shin pain accurately without a scan. If we think imaging would genuinely change your treatment, we'll tell you and point you the right way.
Should I stop running?
Not always. Many runners can keep a reduced amount of running while we fix the cause. If we suspect a bone stress injury we'll tell you straight away, because that changes the plan.
How many sessions will I need?
Most shin splints need somewhere between 2 and 5 sessions alongside your home plan. We'll give you an honest estimate at your first assessment. There are no fixed packages and you'll never be booked in for the sake of it.
Do I need insoles?
Sometimes, but rarely first. Calf and foot strength plus a smarter build in mileage fix most shin splints. If your feet genuinely need support, we will tell you.
Can I be seen this week?
Almost always. We hold same-week appointments at Warwick (4 The Holloway), Stratford-upon-Avon (Unit 3, Avon House, 4 Mulberry Street) and Leamington Spa (REGEN Rooms, Augusta Place). Our Warwick clinic is open 7 days.
We also treat back pain, hip pain, sciatica, neck pain, shoulder pain and plantar fasciitis.
Ready to run without shin pain?
You've got three options: keep hoping it settles on its own, keep paying for quick fixes that last a few days, or let us find the real cause and fix it properly. Book your shin assessment at Warwick or Stratford and take the first step back to pain-free running today.
Your first session includes a full assessment. We'll find what's driving your shin pain, or tell you honestly if we're not the right fit.
No fixed packages, no pressure.
