Runner's knee,
fixed properly

Most runner's knee advice is rest, ice and a foam roller, then the pain comes back the week you build your miles again. We find what's actually overloading your knee, fix it hands-on and get you running further than before. Get better. Stay better.

SOUND FAMILIAR?

/ The knee that ruins
every long run

✓Aches around or behind the kneecap a few miles in

✓Worse running downhill or going down stairs

✓Sore after sitting through a film or a long drive

✓Fine on the flat, grumbles on hills and track sessions

✓Flares every time you add mileage for a race

✓You rested it for a month. It came back in week one

Rest isn't a training plan.

It's a pause button.

Runner's knee is almost never a knee problem on its own. It's the knee paying for too much load too soon: hips that let the knee drop inwards, mileage that jumped faster than the tissue could adapt or a stride that lands heavy. Rest settles it. It doesn't change any of that. That's why it comes back and why we start by finding the actual cause.

WHAT'S ACTUALLY GOING ON

/ Running knee problems we treat every week

Different problems need different plans. Naming yours precisely is step one of fixing it.

Pain around or behind the kneecap that builds with mileage, hills and stairs. The most common running injury we see and one of the most fixable.

Runner's knee

Pain on the outside of the knee a few miles in, often on cambers and downhills. A load and control problem, not a tight band problem.

ITB syndrome

Sharp pain just below the kneecap that hates hills, jumps and speed work. Tendons respond to the right loading, not to rest.

Patellar tendon pain

Pain on the inside of the knee just below the joint, common when mileage ramps up quickly. Often linked to hip and calf strength.

Pes anserine pain

A knee that puffs up after long runs or feels stiff the next morning. We work out what's irritating it and build tolerance back.

Post-run swelling

Pain that started after a change: new shoes, a new plan or a jump in mileage. We look at the change and your body together.

Training load flare-ups

Runner's knee rarely fixes itself.

The longer it hangs around, the more you change how you run. Shorter strides, favouring one leg, skipping sessions. Every week you wait is a week of compensation we'll have to undo. Same-week appointments mean you don't have to wait.

The reason our results last when quick fixes don't. One plan, one team, three steps.

OUR 3 STEP SYSTEM. WHAT HAPPENS IN YOUR FIRST SESSION

01

Assess

A proper conversation, then a full assessment: knee, hip, foot, running gait, strength and your training history. We find the true cause of your knee pain, not just where it hurts. Most runners tell us nobody has ever looked this closely before.

02

Treat

Hands-on treatment from minute one: massage, mobilisation, dry needling, cupping and taping, tailored to what your knee actually needs. You'll feel a difference before you leave the room.

03

Rebuild

A clear plan, progressive strength work and a sensible return-to-run schedule, so your knee handles more mileage than it did before. This is the step every quick fix skips and the reason ours doesn't come back.

No GP referral, no scan required, no fixed packages, no pressure. In your first session we'll find what's actually driving your knee pain and tell you honestly how we can help, or point you to who can if we're not the right fit.

/ How long does runner's knee take?

Anyone promising to fix your knee in one session is guessing. Here's what we actually see in clinic when runners follow their plan.

Mike H · Google Review · Knee Pain

Six weeks of pain in my knee and one hour with Lauren has reduced the pain significantly, giving me hope that there will be an end to this injury. An amazing, friendly and professional service. I have got my next appointment booked in already!

Paige B · Fresha review · Return to running

Lauren has been fantastic, really glad I found TAP clinic when I started running postpartum! I've had some injuries along the way and Lauren has helped me with physio exercises & a plan for recovery, which has meant I was back running injury free - along with some sports massage for maintance - would reccomend to everyone.

GOOD TO KNOW

/ Runner's knee questions, answered

Do I need a GP referral or a scan first?

No. You can book directly with us as a private patient. A thorough physical assessment diagnoses most runner's knee accurately without a scan. If we think imaging would genuinely change your treatment, we'll tell you and point you the right way.

Should I stop running?

Usually not completely. Most runners can keep running at a level the knee tolerates while we fix the cause. Your plan will tell you exactly how far, how often and what to swap in for now, so you keep your fitness.

How many sessions will I need?

Most runner's knee cases need somewhere between 2 and 5 sessions alongside your home plan. We'll give you an honest estimate at your first assessment. There are no fixed packages and you'll never be booked in for the sake of it.

Will new trainers fix it?

Sometimes shoes are part of the story, rarely the whole of it. We'll look at what you run in, but the lasting fix is usually hip and thigh strength plus a smarter build in mileage.

Can I be seen this week?

Almost always. We hold same-week appointments at Warwick (4 The Holloway), Stratford-upon-Avon (Unit 3, Avon House, 4 Mulberry Street) and Leamington Spa (REGEN Rooms, Augusta Place). Our Warwick clinic is open 7 days.

We also treat back pain, hip pain, sciatica, neck pain, shoulder pain and plantar fasciitis.

Ready to run without the knee pain?

You've got three options: keep hoping it settles on its own, keep paying for quick fixes that last a few days, or let us find the real cause and fix it properly. Book your knee assessment at Warwick or Stratford and take the first step back to pain-free running today.

Your first session includes a full assessment. We'll find what's driving your knee pain, or tell you honestly if we're not the right fit.

No fixed packages, no pressure.
