Back pain,
fixed properly
Most back treatment chases the pain around your spine: rest, painkillers, a rub that lasts a weekend, watch it come back. Ours finds what's actually driving it, then fixes it hands-on. Get better, and stay better.

SOUND FAMILIAR?
/ The back that keeps
running your life
✓Stiff as a board first thing, eases once the kettle's on
✓The 3pm desk ache that has you shifting in your
chair every ten minutes
✓A sharp catch when you bend for the laundry
basket or lift the wrong way
✓Can't sit through a car journey without stopping to stretch it out
✓One wrong twist and it "goes" — and you lose a week to it
✓You've rested it. It came back the week life went back to normal
Your back isn't fragile.
It's under-prepared.
Back pain almost never means something is damaged. Scans and pain are surprisingly loosely connected plenty of pain-free fifty-year-olds have "bulging discs" on MRI. Your spine is one of the strongest structures you own; what usually hurts it is the gap between what it's asked to do and what it's currently conditioned for long sitting, sudden lifting, strength that's quietly drifted. None of that is your fault, and all of it is fixable. Which is why we start by finding the actual cause.
We also treat sciatica, neck pain, hip pain, knee pain, shoulder pain and plantar fasciitis.
WHAT'S ACTUALLY GOING ON
/ Back problems we treat every week
Different problems need different plans. Naming yours precisely is step one of fixing it.
The everyday ache with no dramatic cause — by far the most common back pain there is, and one of the most treatable. "Non-specific" doesn't mean mysterious; it means no serious damage.
Non-specific lower
back pain
The one where you bent for a sock and couldn't stand back up. Frightening in the moment, but a spasm is protection, not damage — and hands-on treatment calms it fast.
"Locked" acute back spasm
Pain, tingling or numbness running into the buttock or down the leg. Sounds alarming, usually settles well most sciatica recovers fully with the right treatment and loading, no surgery needed.
Sciatica & nerve pain
The slow-burn ache from eight hours in a chair. There's no such thing as a perfect posture your back just hates being parked in any one position. We fix the capacity, not just the chair.
Desk-related postural pain
Discs don't "slip" — they're firmly anchored. They can get irritated, and irritated discs heal. Slower than muscle, but they get there, and rehab done properly speeds it up.
Disc-related pain
Deadlifts, long runs, awkward tweaks in training. You almost never need to stop we find the weak link, modify the load, and build you back stronger than before it started.
Back pain in lifters & runners
Back pain rarely fixes itself.
The longer it hangs around, the more your body works around it you stop bending, brace before every lift, guard every movement like your back is made of glass. Every week you wait is a week of compensation we'll have to undo. Same-week appointments mean you don't have to wait.
/ The TAP Method, applied to your back
The reason our results last when quick fixes don't. One plan, one team, three steps.
OUR 3 STEP SYSTEM. WHAT HAPPENS IN YOUR FIRST SESSION
01
Assess
A proper conversation, then a full assessment — spine, hips, movement, strength, how you sit, lift and train. We find the true cause of your back pain, not just where it hurts. Most people tell us nobody has ever looked this closely before.
02
Treat
Hands-on treatment from minute one: massage, mobilisation, dry needling, cupping and more, tailored to what your back actually needs. You'll feel a difference before you leave the room.
03
Rebuild
A clear plan and simple, progressive exercises so your back gets stronger than it was before the pain started. Strength work is the single best-evidenced route to lasting back pain relief — and it's the step every quick fix skips.
No GP referral, no scan required, no fixed packages, no pressure. In your first session we'll find what's actually driving your back pain and tell you honestly how we can help — or point you to who can if we're not the right fit.
/ How long does back recovery take?
Anyone promising to fix your back in one session is guessing. Here's what we actually see in clinic when people follow their plan.

Jon H · Fresha review · Back pain
I've been seeing Bethan for several months for back pain and muscle spasms. Her treatment has made a huge difference - my back feels better than it has in years. Highly professional and very effective care.
"
Harry G · Fresha review · Lower back pain
I had bad lower back pain from lifting a heavy load and Megan massaged my back using hot stones, which has greatly alleviated the pain. She does a great job and I shall rebook soon.
"
Pete S · Fresha review · Severe back pain
I came to Bethan at Therapy and Performance Clinic with severe back pain. Bethan was extremely knowledgeable about my issue and was able to alleviate the pain and gave me exercises to do in between sessions. I would absolutely recommend Bethan and will definitely visit again should the need arise.

GOOD TO KNOW
/ Back questions, answered
Do I need a GP referral or a scan first?
No. You can book directly with us as a private patient — no GP referral, no scan needed.
Most back pain doesn't need imaging at all: a thorough physical assessment diagnoses it
accurately, and scans often show "findings" that have nothing to do with your pain. If we
think imaging would genuinely change your treatment, we'll tell you and point you the right way.
Should I rest it or keep moving?
Keep moving — modified, not stopped. Bed rest is one of the few things the evidence
is clear about: it makes back pain worse, not better. The right movement, at the right dose,
is the treatment. Your plan will tell you exactly what to keep doing and what to park for now.
Is my disc "slipped"?
No — discs can't slip. They're anchored firmly between your vertebrae and don't slide
anywhere. What people call a "slipped disc" is usually an irritated or bulging disc, and
here's the reassuring part: discs heal, bulges shrink, and the language matters — backs
described as "slipped" or "crumbling" tend to be guarded, and guarded backs stay sore.
Yours is stronger than the phrase suggests.
How many sessions will I need?
Most back problems need somewhere between 2 and 6 sessions alongside your home
plan — we'll give you an honest estimate at your first assessment, and there are no fixed
packages. You'll never be booked in for the sake of it; our reviews are built on getting people
better, not keeping them coming.
Can I be seen this week?
Almost always. We hold same-week appointments across both clinics and
we're open 7 days. Warwick (4 The Holloway) and Stratford-upon-Avon
(Unit 3, Avon House, 4 Mulberry Street) both treat backs daily.
Can you help sciatica?
Yes — sciatica is one of the things we treat most. It's a symptom, not a diagnosis:
something is irritating a nerve, and the assessment finds what. Most sciatica settles
fully with hands-on treatment and progressive loading, without injections or surgery.
It's usually slower than simple back pain, so an honest timeline matters — and you'll get one.
Ready to trust your back again?
You've got three options: keep hoping it settles on its own, keep paying for quick fixes that last a few days, or let us find the real cause and fix it properly. Book your back assessment at Warwick or Stratford and take the first step out of pain today.
Your first session includes a full assessment. We'll find what's
driving your back pain, or tell you honestly if we're not the right fit.
No fixed packages, no pressure.
